STOP Listening To Others… And Start Crushin’ It!
Posted on 19. Jan, 2010 by Eric Goldstein in Entrepreneur Mindset, Leadership, Mindset, Personal Development
Hey there! Welcome Back, thank you for checking back in... if you haven't yet, make sure you head over and get my FREE 7 Day 'Insider Secrets To Building Your Business Online' Course. Thanks for visiting!
So yesterday a friend asks me if I want to hang and watch some movies. I had told him that I didn’t want to because I was working on some marketing stuff. He started giving me a whole bunch of crap about working too much, and I don’t ‘chill’ enough.
I started laughing out loud! I’m all about hangin’ and enjoying the beautiful things that this life has to offer… but I’m also all about Crushin’ It!
Gary Vanyerchuk was right on when he coined that phrase… when you’re Crushin’ It you are passionate about what you’re doing and you’re working your a$$ off!
It’s take lots of sweat equity to build a brand today… if you don’t have TONS of money to do it. Social media has totally changed the way business is being done and will be done… trust me! Now is the time to work your butt off to establish brand equity within your niche… so STOP listening to others when they tell you to ‘chill’.
The main reason they are telling you this is, your passion for what you are doing magnifies the lack of passion they have for what they are doing… but don’t let them drag you down with them!
Check out the video I created about this today:
So do you have people in your life that tell you to chill? Share your thoughts and experiences with the community here by leaving a comment below. You never know who you are going to help by spilling your thoughts.
Also, please share this post with the others. They NEED to hear this! Just click the green or blue icons at the top or the bottom of this page to share it with all of your friends. They will THANK YOU for it!
Keep Crushin’ It!
Yours In Leadership,
Eric Goldstein
P.S. Are you listening to the other people in your life when they tell you to stop working so much when your passionate about something? If so… STOP IT!

Hi Eric,
Love the video and the post, and the question you posed.
It is said that businesses can’t remain static. They either grow or implode.
Frankly, the same is generally true of friendships.
It is possibly an unfortunate, and sometimes unintended fact of life, that we grow apart from people we love/have loved. However, it is a reality.
Friends, true friends, support each other through life’s many changes and embrace the growth experienced by each other.
If they get excited when their friend finds something in life they can be passionate about and rejoice in their growth and development, they are a rare friend indeed. These relationships have the potential of being the rarely heard description, “He/she has been a friend for my whole life!”
However, we shouldn’t give up on those who don’t understand our drive and passion; perhaps we can help them find theirs (isn’t that what friends are for)?
In the final analysis, there are only so many we “friends” we can have time for. We need to make sure they are the best!
Live life with a “Crush!” (I’ll make mine “orange!”). LOL!

Thanks for the great share Joe!
I always love to hear others perspectives.
It’s not that I ‘write’ certain people off, but
if they’re not movin’ and groovin’… then we
aren’t in alignment.
Keep Crushin’ It!

LOL! Your passion and comittment to a cause greater than yourself reflects on people of mediocrity badly; your light shines awareness on their darkness, so to speak. You will have people automatically dislike you for this reason, the darkness hates the light.
Be the light, follow your passion, you are alive in the moments of passion and comittment, don’t worry about the people who have one foot in the grave and are jealous of your vitality.
You’re an awesome example, Eric, great blog post, man!

Hey Eric,
LOVE your passion and it\’s true, when you\’re doing something you really enjoy it\’s not a chore.
I just returned from a 5 day vacation without my laptop. The vacation was awesome but truly I\’m so happy to be back to \"work\"! Back when I had a J.O.B. I never once missed my job while on vacation – LOL!!
And yes, I too have people in my life who are constantly giving me crap about the amount of time I spend on my laptop. In my case it\’s family members who would prefer that I sit on the couch with them and eat ice cream. They may not totally understand my ambition at the present moment but soon they\’ll see the positive results and will be very happy that I didn\’t cave into the pressure to \"chill\".
Thanks for your leadership Eric, and for being the guy who\’s in front of the pack and making the right choices every day…

This is a such simple topic of discussion, Eric. But it is sooo true that we have to stick with our goals.
My situation is that I have one family member that always has a way of trying to make me feel guilty…when I ask for a \’rain check\’.
Family IS at the top of my list (hands down!) when it comes to my priorities. But heck, when trying to build my brand brick by brick by brick, it takes more than just energy, sweat, and tears…it takes TIME!…and lots of it!
Thanks for sharing this unique post. It\’s not common for this to be brought up.
The bottom line for me is this: I know I have my priorities set and I\’m not letting ANY ONE tell me different.

Wow Eric!
I love that video! You really crushed it there!
I totally agree with you and I\’ve been in that situation many times. People think I\’m crazy always working long nights since I\’m in a different time zone than almost everyone I work with. LOL
Sometimes I even find it hard to turn them down and feel like I\’m letting them down, especially if it\’s a quite close friend.
Some friends really don\’t get it either! Probably they will realize later on and become jealous when they see all our great results we get from our efforts.
Anyway. Keep on rockin Eric and lets crush it with our tribe!1

Thanks Eric,
I was somewhat getting those same comments too by close family. All I’m thankful for really is that You are so RIGHT! JUST GO OUT AND DO IT! Keep Crushin it because someone will be right behind you if your not working hard enough for this. This is not easy but it is FUN. It is a beautiful experience and an ART FORM. You get to paint a wonderful canvas along with a beautiful message around you and alonside build a followers as well as tribe members. It’s an awesome experience! There’s an Importance of sharing your ULTIMATE MESSAGE TO THE WORLD. And bringing your gift to the planet. There’s nothing wrong about building a legacy around your brand and BEING PASSIONATE about it. This is all GREAT STUFF! And an epic journey.
So I’m also going to be right beside you working my butt off esp. when friends ask me to go out on random nights when I’d rather be home and work on marketing piece or a new post.
Thanks for SPEAKING FOR ALL OF US out there!!!
Yours in true Abundance and friendship,

Great Info Eric,
If you have a passion and are willing to put in the time as you suggest then it is not work…..it is so much fun.
There will be bumps along the way but it will be so rewarding in the end.
I too am reading “Crush It” and it makes so much sense. I encourage everyone to sit down and read it. It is a VERY easy and entertaining read.

Great message here Eric, your passion shows!
Like you, I’m also about doing what feels good and feels right in each moment… but it is very important that we are really clear about where we want to go (our vision, purpose, the big picture) so we can ensure each step are moving us closer to it. Without that clarity, simply following what feels good may pose a trap as we might end up not going anywhere.
Love that red “That was easy” button, btw. What a great idea!
Peace & Blessings, my friend

I am right there with you man! I get that ALLLL the time from my own friends and sometimes it gets so bad that I have to give in… They will literally physically pull me away from working and when I say something back like you stated, “ahh you just mad because you have no goals” – oh boy do I get an ear full.. I love my friends but WE have to continue to build our dreams stay focused and have fun!
I will never quit nor give up!

Hey There, Eric-
Love the passion! So true-we can’t let anyone hold us back! Just stay on track and focused and listen to yourself… and “crush it” I just had a similar situation happen to me– I was working and some friends asked me to watch American Idol! I love that show… but I had to say no and keep working on my business.
Thanks for sharing.

it feels good to build my brand.

loving building my brand and my company,
so that’s where a lot of my energy goes!

19. Jan, 2010
Hey Eric
I totally understand what you are talking about. To not listen to all of these other people that want you to do things that are not where you want to be. When people are trying to take you away from what is important to your or my life.
I am also grateful that you talked about doing the things that you love. That to me is very important because if you would rather be out watching a movie or hanging out with friends, that energy is going to transfer to what ever you are doing and you will not be getting the results that you are wanting.
Love it, Crush it.
Nice call.

Eric I just ordered Gary’s book and looking forward to learning some more great stuff from it.
The only thing I caution anyone is to make sure you give your family quality time! I’ve learned this the hard way in building my brand online for the last thirteen years believe me!
Gary even mentions Family as top priority! Sometimes we get so into ‘crushin it’ that we tend to crush the people we love the most. That happened with me and my own family.
There are also people who crush others to get to the top because they are so darn focused on their own self and their own passion and obsessed with getting to the top that anyone who gets crushed along the way becomes road kill on the branding highway!
So balance is always the key to success in anything we do! Be passionate about what you do, help others too along the way that sincerely WANT your help, put your family first, fall in love with what you do meaning helping others get there too!
It’s much more fun at the top with family and a bunch of encouraging friends there with you!!
Decide To Believe!

Sue,
Family and friends are definitely important. I
make sure I give my time to that part of my life.
I’m also a big believer in giving yourself time as
well away from your work/passion… as in working
out, running, meditation… anything like that.
Balance is what I always strive for… but in my other
time after all that… I CRUSH IT

Hey Eric,
Wow you hit such a hot button for me tonight!
It’s funny how it seems like such a challenge to try and explain to the people you are closest to that you are up to something BIG.
I struggle with exactly the kind of call you had….
You work too hard etc. Translation: “I find the fact that you are up to something really ‘big’ intimidates me”.
I read Crush It last year and felt a huge sense of relief. Firstly because Gary points out that he works his a** off but secondly, because he says he loves doing what he’s doing!
Like you, I love what I’m doing. It doesn’t feel like work at all.
How many people do what Gary does, e.g. he works another 8 hours ‘after’ he does his Wine Library TV show (which is the equivalent of a 9-5 job) and come out the other end feeling like they are ‘Crushing It’?
My guess is sadly, hardly any!!
Because work without passion is just work..
It doesn’t matter if your an entrepreneur or in traditional job, if the passion is not there, it’s a job.
Awesome post Eric, here’s to ‘Crushing It WIth Passion’!
