I’m Running A Marathon… Why I’m Doing This??

Posted on 13. Nov, 2009 by Eric Goldstein in Contribution, Inspiration, Personal Development

Hey there! Welcome Back, thank you for checking back in... if you haven't yet, make sure you head over and get my FREE 7 Day 'Insider Secrets To Building Your Business Online' Course. Thanks for visiting!

Yes, You Read That Right… I’m Running A Marathon!

26.2 Miles Baby!!! So you may be thinking… ‘What has inspired me to do this?’ This race symbolizes so many things to me right now, and I want to share it with you. I’m all about being transparent… so I want to share other parts of my life with you.

So Why Am I Doing This Crazzzzy Race??

For one… I’m a GIVER! I’m running this race to raise money for the ‘Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’. This is a charity that I’ve been supporting for about 5 years. I’ve done a handful of triathlons to help the society… but it’s been a few years since I’ve done anything with them.

Also, I’ve made a commitment to myself to get back into “endurance race shape”. I’ve allowed myself to get caught up in being an entrepreneur and haven’t been training the way I used to. Now don’t get me wrong… I’m very appreciative for what is going on with my business… but i’m all about living a balanced life.

I’m always stepping up my game and playing BIG in life. It’s all about setting new standards for yourself! I know by sharing this with all of you out there… you will keep me accountable to completing the race.

So When Is The Race?

The race is on May 2nd of this coming year in Vancouver Canada. I signed my papers yesterday so I’m officially in. Let me share with you how AMAZING the Universe is. Yesterday I sign up for my first marathon, and Stu Mittleman is speaking in New York City.

Stu Mittleman ran across the USA… from California to New York! I think the man knows a little bit about what it takes to complete a marathon. I had the pleasure of listening to his talk. The man is brilliant! I also have the honor of running with Stu in Central Park this Saturday.

Here is a quick video of me and Stu last night hangin’ out after his talk. Check it out:

Do You Support Me In My Journey?

I will be sharing my journey to the marathon with you. This is going to be a HUGE growth step for me. There are so many life lessons that are going to come out of this.

There are going to be those times when it’s 5AM, it’s time to run 15 miles… and I don’t feel like doing it! I’ll be sharing all of that will you… so stay tuned. I also will be asking for you to help me raise money to support the foundation. My fund raising goal is $4300. Help me ROCK that for the foundation!

One Of My Patient Hero’s… Gotta Love Her!

I’ve been truly inspired by some of the ‘patient hero’s’ that I’ve met during my time supporting the Leukemia & Lymphoma foundation. One that has truly touched my heart is little Francesca Mollo. This girl is a trooper! Check her out with her cute little braids :) Francesca Mollo

She has been through something crazzzzy like 900 straight days of chemo therapy! She is one of the main reasons why I’m drawn back to the society. So please help me in helping to change the lives of people like Francesca by making a donation.

Also… if your life has been effected by Leukemia or Lymphoma, I want you to share your story with me. It could have been your own life, a friends life or a family member… whatever it is, share it with me. I’m want to run this race in their name.

So for everyone that sends me in a video, a picture or a story about someone’s life that has been touched by this… I’m going to wear that person’s name on my jersey during the race and cross the finish line in their honor:)

PLEASE ‘retweet’ this post and share it will all of your Twitter followers. Let’s all come together and run this race together. I’ll do the miles… you just have to share and support!

Before I head out… Are there areas of your life where you have let things slip a bit? Are you ready to STEP UP and SET A NEW STANDARD for yourself? Share with me below so I can support you on your journey:)

I thank you for taking your time to read this post today. Stay tuned for my ‘Road To The Marathon’…

Speak soon…

    Hello Eric,

Running a marathon for such a GREAT cause is AWESOME! It is also inspiring to me as I am running my first Triathlon this year and could use some motivation.

I became a Health Coach after losing my Mother to Cancer. I specialize in counseling people with cancer with their diet, exercise and on living a healthy life. I have met some amazing people during the last 12 years that are living healthy lives and are beating this disease. I am going to forward this to my groups.

I will be following your journey,
    Jacki

Eric, thank you so much for your commitment to help raise money for research. I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in May 08 during a double bypass open heart surgery, it was crazy having 2 life threatening diseases at the same time! If it wasn’t for the knowledge that is now available about cancer I would not have made it, I just had my one year clear. Sadly I lost 2 friends to Lymphoma at the same time, so more research is needed to prevent anyone having to go through cancer.
Please would you add Christina and Deirdre to you T-shirt.

    Many thanks,
    Lynne

      Lynne,

Congrats on your 1 year clear! It’s my
pleasure to help and raise funds… it’s my
      way of contributing beyond myself.

I just added Christina and Dierdre’s name
to my list. I will be wearing their names on
my jersey on race day. If you’d like me to add
their last names send them my way:)

      Keep shining:)

Good for you Eric. Big challenge that will make you much stronger.
I want to commit to something to. It’s not gonna be running marathon(at least not yet:). I simply want to force myself to get out of bed early, to have more time to do more positive staff with my day.
I commit to starting my week getting up at 6 a.m. every monday.

      Miko,

Great to hear that you are going to commit
to waking up early each day… what a great
      feeling it is!

One thing… I believe our vocabulary is very
important. So when you say ‘force’, you’re
confirming to yourself that it’s something you
      don’t want to do.

Maybe switch the word to ‘choose’… I choose
to get out of bed early. Just a suggestion:)

Holy cow! That’s awesome, Eric! Kudos to you for committing to something so huge!

I’m so happy to hear that you are running for the L&L Foundation. Many years ago, a dear childhood friend of my sister’s passed away from leukemia at the age of 22. It was not something any of us ever expected to witness at such a young adult age. Your work with the foundation is highly commendable. Thank you for doing this.

I look forward to seeing your progression and transformation as the race date approaches.

Best wishes to you on this amazing journey!

That is awesome Eric. I will be following along on your journey and shouting from the sidelines to give you support. Timing is everything in life. I just recently connected with you and have been getting to know you. A little over a week ago my wife found out that her little brother (45) was diagnosed with Lymphoma. His name is Derrick. He begins radiation treatment next Friday and will under go that until 12/10. At that time they will determine what the next step will be. Indications so far are that they caught it early and things will hopefully be favorable.

    I’ll be in your corner.

Awesome news, and I will look forward to following your journey. I did a 140.6 mile Ironman in 2008, and remember all the preparation and training, but it all started years before with the though of doing marathons :) ….you can do it Eric and you will be happy you did. It is a very gratifying accomplishment, especially doing it in the name of a charity!

Hi Eric, I am really inspired by your blog post today. I first learned about Stu at a UPW event held by Tony Robbins last summer. I made a promise to myself that I would work up to doing a marathon at least once in my life. I was just telling my coach yesterday that I want to run my first 5K race. Your post reminded me to go ahead and stop talking and start doing. I’m going to go sign up, pay the fee and get my shirt. It’s time for action. Thanks!

Looking forward to your progress reports.

I think that having the ability to give back is one of the funniest things to do because you know deep down that you made an impact in someone else’s life. I love to see look on a person’s face when you just helped them out or lended them a hand. Life is not all about what we want, it is what we can do to help satisfy the needs of others and then worry about ourselves.

    Hi Eric,

Way to go with running a marathon and getting back into endurance race shape. I love it! Way to think big and follow that up with ACTION. On those mornings that you don’t feel like training, you think about 900 straight days of chemo. That puts things in perspective real quick. I’m stepping up by running in 2 triathlons next year. I enjoy the challenge.

    Thanks for sharing Eric.
