Hey Hey Hey… In yesterday’s post I highlighted the 5 Basic Skills To Creating A POWERFUL Personal Brand.  If you haven’t read it yet, swing by there and give it a peek and today’s post will make much more sense.

Let’s dig right in and start breaking these steps down in more detail…

Step 1:  ”Design Your Cash Flow Map”

I’ve already created a few great trainings on this topic.  Think of your ‘Cash Flow Map’ as your ‘back-end’… or your funnel as a lot of people like to call it.

• Have You Created Your ‘Cash Flow Map’ Yet:  In this video I talk about the importance of having a ‘back-end’ set up for your business.  The back-end is where the money is made from your Personal Brand.  Watch this video to hear my thoughts on this
• How To Design Your ‘Cash Flow Map’:  Here I created a quick PowerPoint presentation where I walk you through, in detail, setting up your ‘back-end’.  I share with you a common mistake that most marketers are making that could stop you from creating a solid brand.

Step 2:  Build Your Social Media Following

As we spoke about yesterday, you want to make sure that you are hangin’ out on the big boys.  Basically Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.  Now there are other niche social media sites that are excellent places to connect with people within your industry, but if you use the big boys consistently, you can create a laser targeted following.

Let me share with you a little bit of how I use all three of these sites…

• Twitter – This is such a POWERFUL marketing tool, and most people using it don’t even understand it’s true power.  You are able to target people who are tweeting/talking about a certain keyword or keyword phrase.  This is why I really LOVE Twitter.
  • Twitter Search – This is basically Twitter’s search engine of all the tweets that happen on Twitter.  This is where the real VALUE of twitter is.  You can type in a keyword or keyword phrase within you niche, and you will find people tweeting that keyword.  This is a great opportunity to jump into conversations that have to do with your industry.
  • Add Followers On Twitter – I like to use a software to automate things.  I’m not spamming tweets or anything, I’m just using it to target people within my niche and add them as followers.  The software that I’ve been using for a while now is Twitter FriendAdder.  There are not many automated following tools that still work today, but this one does as they are keeping up with Twitter’s rules and regulations.
• Facebook – One of my favorite places to hang out on the web.  Facebook now has over 500 million active user accounts and 50% of their active users log on to Facebook in any given day.  That’s a whole lotta people!
• YouTube – They have claimed the title ‘The 2nd Largest Search Engine’… that’s pretty awesome when they were designed as a search engine.  More and more people are searching directly on YouTube for what they want, instead of going to Google… and the beautiful part about it is the competition is so much LESS!

Step 3: Create Content

As we spoke about in yesterday’s post, you have a few different options to choose from when it comes to creating content on your blog. You have to find which one works for you.  I tend to like video, as I can get a lot more out in less time… and I feel I can build more rapport with my readers through my videos.  Let’s talk about each one.

• Video – Don’t go thinking that you need to get a ton of expensive filming equipment to get started with video marketing.  I’ve been using the same camera since I started with video, the Flip Camcorder.  It’s picture quality is awesome and it’s all you need.
• Audio – Audio is another great source of content.  The great thing about audio is you can upload them to podcasting sites like PodcastAlley.  Your readers can put the audio files onto their iPods and listen to them while at the gym, on the train, etc.
• Text – This is the most common of all the types of blog posts.  The biggest benefit that I see from text posts is it adds fresh new content to your blog… which Google loves!  There are a lot of video bloggers that just upload the video as a blog post, but I like to add some text as well to help with my Google rankings.

Step 4: Drive Traffic

This is where the rubber meets the road.  Without traffic, you have nothing.  If a store has nobody coming in, they are out of business… same goes for your blog if it’s a ghost town.  You can drive a great amount of traffic just from Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

• Syndicate Your Content – Each time you publish a new blog post, head over to your Facebook page and put it in your status with a link to the post.  Do the same on Twitter… send out a tweet with a quick 140 character blurb and a link to your new post.  If you’re consistently connecting with the people on your social media sites, you’ll build the trust factor with them… causing them to click on your links.
• Tribe Syndication - If you want to step things up a bit and drive some quality targeted traffic, then Tribe Syndication is for you .  This one strategy has had a great impact on my business and my brand.  You’re basically connecting with others within your niche and joining forces… creating a blogging alliance where you each drive targeted traffic to each other.

This is quality traffic, as it’s others referring you… the credibility factor weights in very heavy here!

Step 5: Build Relationships

Now that you’ve done all of this work, you have to build and maintain your relationships.  Most marketers miss the boat BIG time on this one!  It’s called ‘social’ media for a reason…

• Reply to Blog Comments – When people comment on your blog posts, reply back… what a concept:)  You started the conversation, they answered/replied… and now it’s your turn to respond.  I get a decent amount of comments on my blog posts and I still manage to reply to 99% of them.  There may come a time when it gets too hectic, but I believe this is where the real relationship building happens.
• Reply To Facebook Comments – Same thing goes here.  If you post something on your Facebook wall, and people comment, comment back.  If I have time I reply to each and every person on the thread by typing the ‘@’ and then there name so they know that I’m talking to them.
• Reply To Twitter Direct Messages – If someone mentions your name out on Twitter, then reply back.  If they retweeted a piece of your content, reply back and thank them.

This might seem like basic communication skills, but you would be blown away by the amount of people that just aren’t doing these things.  The brand that CARE the most in the end, WIN!

Today’s information springs off of yesterdays post.  In that post we spoke about getting ‘Back To The Basics‘… and chilling out on the ‘Ninja Moves’.  If you haven’t read that post, head over and do that before reading this post.

So now that you understand how the ‘Law of Compounding‘ is just about doing a handful of simple things over and over,  I want to break down those simple steps.  These are the steps that you will do after you have defined your personal brand.

Here is a visual image of how this looks, and then I’ll go into describing each piece below the image…

Step 1: Design Your “Cash Flow Map”

This piece of  the puzzle is going to be a work in progress… well most of these steps will be.  It’s ideal to at least have a 1st phase of this in place before you start marketing (Blogging, Facebooking, Tweeting, etc.).  Your ‘Cash Flow Map’ basically is the back-end of your Personal Brand.

Think of your marketing as your ‘front-end’… which funnels people to your ‘back-end’.  This is what you will be offering the people who subscribe to your list.  This is basically the stuff on the shelves of your store.  As people get to know you, like you and trust you… they will join your list and buy from you.

An important principle to remember here is you MUST offer them stuff that has to do with your niche, and the value that you’re offering must be way MORE than the dollars you are asking.

Let’s get something straight. It’s okay to sell stuff and make money from your Personal Brand!

It’s funny… people have this feeling like it’s not okay to sell stuff and make money from your blog and your brand.  Are you going to tell me that these people are not buying anything from anyone in their life?  It’s ridiculous… just make sure that what you are offering INCREASES your readers and followers life.

Step 2: Build Your Social Media Following

The first thing I want to say about this is DO NOT over complicate this.  I don’t know the exact total, but I think there are over 1000 Social Media/Networking sites on the internet today.  You DO NOT need to be on all of them.  This would be an overwhelming task.

For starters just make sure you’re hangin’ on the big boys… Facebook, Twitter & YouTube.  These three sites alone can help you to create a Rock Star Personal Brand.  You can drive more than enough traffic back to your blog from just being active on these three.

You want to focus on adding friends and followers within your niche.  Remember, you must know who your target audience is when defining your Personal Brand… this way you will know what type of people to build your following around.  If you don’t know who you want to connect with, how can you add friends and followers?  Make sense?

Step 3: Create Content

Now you need some content to share with your friends and followers.  I look at your content as the electrical, plumbing and mechanical pieces when you are building a house… it’s the stuff that makes everything run.  Without content, nothing happens!

Let me rephrase that… ‘Without Engaging Content, Nothing Happens”

This is where you will be sharing information with your following that adds value to them.  Once you know who your target audience is, then you can ask yourself “What problem can I solve for this audience?… How can I better

Building a brand or a business is all about creating solutions to other people’s problems/challenges.  A solution is something that ‘adds value’ to someone’s life… which basically means you’re answering unanswered questions that they have, or in so many words solving their problem.

Whatever type of content you are comfortable with, let that be your choice.  There are basically 3 types… video, audio and text.  I feel video is the most effective out of all the types.  I like to mix it up, mostly between video and text… and I will be getting to adding the audio in as well soon.

Step 4: Drive Traffic

Now it’s time to get some eyeballs on your stuff.  Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are going to be great sources of FREE quality traffic.  You’ve been building a targeted following of people within your niche on these sites to be able to share your solution driven content with them.

All you have to do at this point is post it as your Facebook status and send out a Tweet with the link to your blog post.  Instead of updating your Facebook status, you could create a Facebook ‘note’ to mix things up.  It will appear on your Facebook page as well, but the cool thing about notes is you can tag your friends and followers.

When you tag someone within the Facebook note, it will show up on their profile page and it will also show in the news feed of the people who are friends with them… gotta love the viral effect of social media!

If there was a video for the post, just upload it to your YouTube account.  Add some tags, which basically are keywords, and a short description.  Then embed the video on your blog.  It’s that simple…

A little tip for when creating the description of the video, add the URL of the blog post that you’re embedding the video on.  This is to drive the person back to your blog after watching the video.

Step 5: Build Relationships

Now this is where most people fall off.  After they’ve gone through all of the work to build their following and create their content, they don’t respond to people.  It’s very important to respond to Facebook comments, Twitter replies and retweets, YouTube comments and comments on your blog.

This is what it’s all about.  You are doing everything else to be able to do this.  It comes down to caring about your readers and your following.  The brands that CARE the most in the end… WIN!

It really can be that simple…

Once you’ve got the basics down and you’re doing them consistently… then go train to be a Ninja.  The cool part about this whole Personal Branding deal is, you can create a killer brand without all of the fancy moves and strategies.  The secret Ninja move that really counts… is CONSISTENCY!

It’s really not a Ninja move… it’s just that most people aren’t consistent so the principle of consistency seems like a secret.  It’s the one ingredient that cannot be left out when cookin’ up a successful Personal Brand!

**A Quick Little Tip**

If you go through the process of clarifying your personal brand, then all of these basic skills become that much more powerful.  When you know ‘what’ you are offering and ‘who’ you are offering it to, there is no stopping your success!

Most common mistake…

The most common mistakes that people are making is they’re not taking the time to get CLEAR on what their niche really is.  One of the most powerful steps you can take when cashing in on your passion is clarifying your personal brand.

The more targeted you are about ‘who’ your audience is, the more success you will achieve.  It’s much easier to create content that is talking to a specific group of people.

I’ve always had a THIRST for helping other people to be more of who they truly are.  When I launched my blog I knew that I wanted to do just that.  That’s where my tagline ‘Empowering Ordinary People To Do Exrtaordinary Things’ came from.

When I realized that ANYONE could create a personal brand for themselves using Social Media and Blogging, based around their passion, I knew that I found my brand.  I set out on a mission to help as many people as possible build an online business doing what they LOVE!

I get immense joy working within the personal branding arena.  Watching someone grow into a full fledged entrepreneur is awesome.  The best part is… they’re being more of who they really are!

In this post I’m going to share with you the 7 MUSTS To Building A Personal Brand, but before I do I want to explain why NOW is the time to do this.

In case you haven’t noticed… the media game has CHANGED! Media used to be ‘one way’… TV, radio, magazines, billboards, etc. To use these advertising mediums you had to have a lot of money to keep dumping into them… not today!

Now with social media, you can build a brand around what you’re passionate about for little to no cost. Actually there is one major cost… sweat equity, otherwise known as working your a$$ off!

The Shift In Advertising Dollars…

There is a shift that is happening in how advertising dollars are being spent. Advertisers spend money where the eyeballs are, right? More and more eyeballs are hangin’ out on social media sites and blogs then they are on the TV screens… this is huge!

Most people don’t even realize this is happening right now… and they won’t until EVERYONE catches on. So if you take the time to build a brand around a niche now, there will be advertisers that will pay you to be in front of your audience… and this is only 1 of the MANY income streams that will be possible.

Are you starting to see the POWER in this?

This is serious stuff… nothing to sneeze at. For decades people have dreamed of building a brand for themselves, and the time to step up to the plate has arrived. Will you swing for the fences and take action?

If you’re reading this post right now, you have an excellent opportunity to position yourself before the big ‘gold rush’ to build a personal brand takes place. Mark my words… it will take place. It’s like when websites first came out. Most people didn’t understand them or think they needed one. Then what happened? Everyone and their mother had to have one! The same thing is coming here my friend, trust me:)

Now that I’ve laid that ground word for you, I want to share with you the 7 MUSTS To Building A Personal Brand. Some of the things I share here will be very simple… but DO NOT underestimate the power of them.  These are the core principles when creating a powerful personal brand.

MUST #1 – Be Authentic

It’s my feeling that this is the one MUST that is violated the most. What part of BE YOURSELF do people not get? I find it a bit comical. Actually, it’s not even funny! There are so many people out there wasting their time trying to building a brand that are flat out being fake.

When you’re being authentic, you’re in alignment with your true self. When you’re being your true self, you’re in alignment with your desires. When you’re in alignment with your desires, then you’re in a place of allowing them into your life.

The second you start living from that inauthentic place, you’re out of alignment with your true self. People think that they have to act or be a certain way for people to want to follow them. If you’re acting like someone you’re not, you CAN NOT attract the followers that you TRULY want… it defies the laws of the Universe.

MUST #2 – Build A Brand Around Your Passion

This is another biggie! Well they all are, that’s why they are MUSTS:) You want to make sure you’re building a brand around something that you LOVE. Just because you’re a lawyer, that doesn’t mean that you love law. You might, but most of the time people have take on roles in their life because of what their parents or other influences in their life.

So you want to ask yourself… what do I love? What is my PASSION? This questions is hard for most people because they’ve been doing things they hate for years and years to please other people. Now is the time to take back who you are and cash in on your passion baby!

What websites do you look at? What magazines do you subscribe to? What kind of books do you read? These are some of the questions that will help you to discover what your true passion is. When you find the thing that you love, then this is the arena you should build your personal brand around.

MUST #3 – Be Consistent

You cannot build a brand without this ingredient. It’s like trying to bake a cake without baking soda… it won’t rise, it will be flat like a pancake. To build brand equity out there in the marketplace, people need to know you, like you and trust you. A piece of creating that trust comes from being consistent.

Some people will like your style right away, but most it will take a little while. Think about a song that you heard on the radio that you didn’t like right away. Actually you thought it was a bit annoying. Before you know it, you’ve heard it a bunch of times on the radio and now you’re singing it in the shower and jammin’ to it in your car. I’m not saying that you’re annoying… but you get my point:)

By being consistent and showing your readers and followers that you will be around will start to build trust in you. This is where a lot of people go wrong. They start out, but then after a few weeks they disappear. Then one minute their back around again, and then the next their gone.

You must show your followers that they can count on you to be around…

MUST #4 – Work Your A$$ Off!

I apologize for the bluntness, but this one needs to be hit home. If you think you’re going to come online, work a few hours here or there and build a personal brand that people love… you should just throw in the towel right now. Building a personal brand is going to take a bunch of your time at first… but it’s so worth it.

When I started building my brand, my friends and family would always ask me why I’m not around that much anymore. My response to them was that I’m Crushin’ It… that I’m branding myself as a leader in my niche. Don’t get me wrong, I still had a life, but I spent a lot of late nights responding to emails, Facebook messages and comments on my blog (and I still do:).

This is why building a brand around your passion is so crucial. If you LOVE what you’re doing, then you will enjoy putting in the time. So roll up your sleeves and get ready to rock!

MUST #5 – Become An Expert In Your Niche

To become the person that people turn to for information in your industry, you need to know your stuff. Become a hardcore student of your niche. Learn all you can. Spend a little bit of time each day researching what’s new in your industry.

It would be a good idea to subscribe to blogs and news sites that talk about your industry, this way you’re on top of the latest information. The more you know about your topic, the more value you’re able to add to your readers.

MUST #6 – Care About Your Followers

The brands that CARE the most, WIN in the end. It’s as simple as that. When you’re readers comment on your stuff, comment back! People miss the boat big time on this one. They put out a good blog post, people comment… and then they don’t respond. The same thing happens on their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

It’s called ‘social’ media for a reason… hello! It’s about building relationships, and part of building relationships is conversing. Imagine your standing with someone having a conversation. You tell them a story about something, they respond to you and then you just walk away without saying anything to them. It sounds silly, but not responding to people when they comment is the same EXACT thing!

Remember what I said in the beginning of this post… it’s the simple things that people are missing:)

MUST #7 – Be A Value Adder

I don’t have to tell you that most people out there on the net are coming from a ‘take’ mentality. People can feel it and will run full speed in the opposite direction. Become someone who adds value to people’s lives. Let me tell you a secret… come on lean in close… “you will STAND OUT when you do this because 95% of the other people out there are coming from the perspective of take take take”!

While everyone else is take take taking… you will be the attractive one because you are contributing to their lives. Then what happens is they want to give back to you, buy your stuff, come to your seminar… you get the jist.

I’ve been asked this question a lot lately… What is your secret to building your business online? What I’m going to share with you in this video today is EXACTLY the formula that I use! I’m a transparent guy if you have noticed by now

The information that I’m going to share with you in this video below, is information that I usually don’t just put out there. Most of the time I share something like this with my mentoring clients or the people on my team in my business…. but you caught me in an EXTRA giving mood.

Don’t be fooled by the simplicity… everyone is always looking for the confusing and complicated strategies. We’re building a business online, we’re not performing brain surgery! Towards the end of the video I share with you the #1 way that I’m getting TONS of eyeballs on my content each and every day for FREE!

So I shared with you at the end of the video my strategy of creating TRIBES. Hands down this has exploded my traffic and has brought my biz to a whole new level. TRIBES is a new concept to the marketing world. Very soon you will be hearing more and more people talking about this term, but for right now there are NOT many!

A TRIBE is simply a group of like-minded entrepreneurs that are all sharing and promoting each others content. Most people can’t grasp this concept, because they are so STUCK in the ‘competitive’ mindset. They would never think of promoting someone else who is doing exactly what they are doing.

At first, it’s a little tough to wrap your thoughts around because we’ve been so programmed that other people doing what we are doing are our competition. It’s so WRONG! We live in an abundant Universe where this is an unlimited amount of resources to go around for everyone.

When you realize by all working together like this you all increase your exposure dramatically, then you get it and are ready to form a TRIBE. You are leveraging other people who are already marketing to your exact market… brilliant if you ask me:)

So that’s first… if you can’t make the mental shift, then TRIBES are not for you. The coolest part about this is you are able to reach thousands and thousand more people who are you exact market then you can ever do by yourself. By far this has been the biggest surge to my business.

Some of the requirements to being a good fit for a TRIBE:

You must be a GIVER…

This doesn’t need much explaining. You need to come from a place of wanting to add value to other peoples lives instead of coming from the place of what can you ‘take’.

You must be willing to SHARE:

Too many people hoard resources. When they get turned on to something good, they hide if from everyone. That is a fear based mentality that can’t survive within a TRIBE. TRIBE members all look out for each other. They CARE about each others success just as much as they do their own success. If they find something valuable, they are quick to share it with the others.

You must be AUTHENTIC:

You’re going to want to attract TRIBE members that match YOU… not someone else. If you’re not being authentic, then you won’t attract the right people. This almost goes without saying, but I see so many people online today just not being themselves. It’s time for people to cut the crap and just be themselves! When you do this there will be amazing synergy that is created between you and your TRIBE members.

So.. now that I’ve share with you a bit on what it takes to be in a position to create a TRIBE, how do you go about forming one. Here are some pointers for you:

Social Media Sites

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and sites just like them are GREAT place to meet like-minded entrepreneurs to form a TRIBE. You can search people out that have the same likes and passions that you do, connect with them and let them know what you are looking to do. It’s always good to syndicate/promote their content first… it will help you catch there attention.

Forums

There are so many forums out there where people are talking all day long about specific topics. Find a forum that has to do with your niche, and get in there and mix it up. If you search your keyword with the word ‘forum’ at the end of it in Google, your bound to find communities where you can find some like minded people.

Now that you know where you can meet people to connect with to form a TRIBE, let me introduce you to the guys that I run with…. my TRIBE. There guys are value adders, the type of guys you want to learn from.

So now that you know how this works… I wanted to share with you a chart of the ‘emotional guidance system’. This will make it easier for you to know where you are within each emotion.

Remember, when you came into this world you came in 100% fully connected to your Source/Creator. You were born with this internal guidance system… better known as our ‘Emotions’. You’ve just forgot how to use them the way they were designed.

Nothing to worry about, as you have access to this guidance at all times. It’s always on and can’t be shut off. It’s just you’ve been tuning it out… so it just takes a little practice again to be aware of it.

I hope it is as I see so many people disappear and give up on building their business. Most of them think it’s because they didn’t know enough about social media or internet marketing… when most of the time it had nothing to do with that. All they needed to do was to get back to listening to the guidance they were born with.
