Sorta of a BOLD title, wouldn’t you say?

While I was hangin’ out in nature the other day, the thought popped into my head ‘Why is everyone always looking for the super duper ninja marketing tricks?”

Some people are ALWAYS on the lookout for the next hottest marketing secret.  That’s fine if you are already movin’ and groovin’… but most of the new marketers really need to get back to the basics.

It’s all about creating a strong foundation… better known as ‘the basics’.  Once you have the basics down, and you’re doing them CONSISTENTLY… then, and only then, should you move off to the advanced stuff.  The advanced stuff will do you no good if you don’t have the basics down.  Most of the time you don’t even need the advanced stuff!

Coach John Wooden’s theory on the basics…

This message rang super clear when I heard an interview from Coach John Wooden, legendary UCLA basketball coach. His ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period while at UCLA are unmatched by any other college basketball coach.

The man knows something about creating success.  On the first day of practice he would have his team practice putting on their socks and shoes the proper way.  The players would look at him like he was crazy, but Wooden knew that a lot of players were taken out of games, and unable to go back in, because of blisters.

He would tell his players that the easiest way to avoid getting blisters is to pay attention to the basics.  He would show them how to roll their socks correctly and how to tie their shoes the right way to prevent the blisters… and they wouldn’t move on to other drills until they got this correct.

As silly as that sounds, there is a very important lesson within Coach Wooden’s teachings…

When it came to teaching his players basketball he always said “I do not permit fancy stuff in the teaching of my players at all.”  He was a big believer in doing the basics… over and over.  He had them practice free throws, dribbling and all of the other basic skills there are in basketball.

This is as concept that most people don’t grasp…

If you take Coach Wooden’s advice, you will start to see so much more success in your business.  There are a lot of people out there that are going to try and sell you stuff by saying “If you don’t buy my program where I’m going to teach you this cutting edge Ninja move that nobody on the planet knows about, then you’ll be a complete failure”.

Well in so many words they’re saying that:)

I’m here  to tell you that it really comes down to doing some basic things everyday.  By doing this, all of your efforts will compound on each other… otherwise known as the ‘law of compounding.  This is one of the most POWERFUL laws within our Universe.

I will tell you this, in the building my personal brand I haven’t used any ‘Ninja Tricks’.  I’ve just been doing a lot of simple things over and over… and then doing them again… and then again… and again… i think you get my point

Here is a quick story really showing you the power of this principle…

Once upon a time a Mogul king wished to reward a local peasant for saving his daughter’s life. “You can have anything you want,” offered the king.  The peasant asked merely for one grain of rice to be placed on a chessboard.  Courtiers began to laugh at the meagerness of this request, but the suddenly audacious peasant held up his hand for silence.  “I ask for one more thing”, he said. “Each day the amount of grains will be doubled and placed in the next box, and so on, for all the places on the board.”  The king thought this trifle a bit ridiculous, but agreed. The story does not end well, for on the 64th place there was not enough rice in the entire kingdom to satisfy the request. The embarrassed king had the peasant hanged.

This story shows you how exponential growth is created by doing something simple over and over.  I know I’m pounding this principle into your head right now, but I can’t stress enough how important this is.

There is so much HYPE out there on the internet.  I like to consider myself a ‘non-hypey’ marketer who will always shoot you straight… and keep it real with you!

Remember, you need to know how to do the basic karate kicks and punches before you can become a Ninja!  It’s my intention on this blog to share with you the basic strategies that you need to create a RockStar Personal Brand within your niche.

The title of the post says it all… how you hold yourself when sharing about your business will determine your success.  Posture isn’t just when you are face to face with people.  It’s in effect whenever you’re sharing about your business.

If your writing a blog post, your posture comes through.  If you’re shooting a video, your posture comes through.  This matters 100% of the time.  Posture comes down to belief in what you are doing.

Imagine for a moment, being able to create financial freedom for yourself talking about what you love.  There has never been a better time then NOW for you to do this for yourself.  Very soon there will be a ‘gold rush‘ of people running to do this… position yourself before it gets too competitive within your niche.

Most common mistake…

The most common mistakes that people are making is they’re not taking the time to get CLEAR on what their niche really is.  One of the most powerful steps you can take when cashing in on your passion is clarifying your personal brand.

The more targeted you are about ‘who’ your audience is, the more success you will achieve.  It’s much easier to create content that is talking to a specific group of people.

My Brand & WHY I do what I do…

I’ve always had a THIRST for helping other people to be more of who they truly are.  When I launched my blog I knew that I wanted to do just that.  That’s where my tagline ‘Empowering Ordinary People To Do Exrtaordinary Things’ came from.

When I realized that ANYONE could create a personal brand for themselves using Social Media and Blogging, based around their passion, I knew that I found my brand.  I set out on a mission to help as many people as possible build an online business doing what they LOVE!

I get immense joy working within the personal branding arena.  Watching someone grow into a full fledged entrepreneur is awesome.  The best part is… they’re being more of who they really are!

Consistency Is KING… It’s the ‘secret sauce’ in getting anything you want!

Out of anything you can do to achieving your goals, consistency is the #1 thing that is definitely needed.  Are you getting the results you desire in a certain area of your life?

If you answered ‘yes’ to that question, then I will be that you are doing a certain set of things CONSISTENTLY… and if you said ‘no’, that I’ll bet that you’re not being consistent.

If you’re building a Personal Brand for yourself… then Consistency is an absolute MUST!  I look at it like this… Try baking a cake without baking soda, what happens?  It doesn’t rise… it’s flat and boring!  Same goes for ‘baking’ a brand without consistency… Do you want to be flat and boring??

I just watched a GREAT quick little video on the Simple Truths website called ‘Appreciation’.  I’ll give you the link in a minute… it’s a MUST watch!

So often you can go through your life without thanking the people that have touched your life and made a difference.

Stop and think for a minute… Who has touched your life in some way that you may not have acknowledged?

It can make all the difference in the world to the that person knowing that they made your life better by being a part of it.

I’m not going to keep you long on this post, because I want to challenge you to thank someone who has touched your life… and I want you to do that TODAY!  It can be anyone…. stop what you’re doing, close your eyes and think of someone who has truly made an impression on your life.

Anyone come to mind??

It can be someone who was in your life for a day, a week, a year… or maybe they are still in your life.  You’ll know when you have that special someone in your mind.  You will feel a rush of JOY come over you.

Now that you have that person… take action!  Give them a call, send them an email, write them a letter… write their name in the sky.  Pick one and do it now.  This will make their day!!!

It’s that time again… another book review for Hay House Publications.  It’s funny the way things work… I wanted to read more, and now Hay House sends me new books that they’re getting ready to release to read and do a blog post review for them.  Pretty cool!

The book that I’m reviewing today is Louise Hay’s new book Experience Your Good Now!: Learning To Use Affirmations.

I really enJOYed reading this book.  I’ve been becoming aware of the way that I talk to myself more and more lately, and this book was right in alignment with this topic.

We are all speaking to ourselves on a daily basis, more than we actually know we are.  You may be reading this right now and saying “I don’t talk to myself’”… it’s that voice right there that I’m referring to.  You’re not crazy for talking to yourself… you’re human.

We are constantly thinking… which basically is talking to ourselves.  The challenge with this is that most of us have been programmed to think more towards the negative end of the spectrum.  It’s okay if you do… you had a lot of years of listening to your parents, teachers, grandparents, etc.  Most of the stuff that came out of their mouths probably wasn’t words of empowerment.

Do any of these sound familiar?

“Money doesn’t grow on trees” , “Don’t get your hopes up”, “You have to save for a rainy day”, “We can’t afford it”, “You really should watch what you’re eating”

These are just a few of the things that you may have heard.  Your parents and the others that told you these things didn’t know any better.  I believe that people always do the best they can with the resources they have.

They were programmed as well to think and talk this way, so they were just doing what they knew.  Being subjected to this year after year, caused some of these statements to become your daily habitual thoughts.

Most of them you’re thinking and not even realizing that you are.  They’ve become so ‘normal’ that you’ve almost become numb to them… you’ve acclimated to them.

The boiling frog story…

If a frog is placed in boiling water, it will jump out, but if it is placed in cold water that is slowly heated, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death.  It’s sort of what’s happened to a lot of people over time.

The negative statements were made gradually over time, so they just got use to them… not realizing they were being COOKED!

Now can you see how this can changed your pattern of thinking over time?  The disempowering statements turned into your thoughts, and then the habitual thinking of those thoughts created your beliefs. 

A belief is just a thought you keep thinking… and when you think it long enough, it becomes one of your truths… better known as a ‘belief’.

Not to worry, I have good news!

Just like your parents, teachers and all of the others programmed you… you are able to re-program yourself back to thinking more on the positive side of the scale.  How do you do this?  With positive self talk… otherwise known as Affirmations.

In Louise Hay’s new book Experience Your Good Now!: Learning To Use Affirmations, she takes you by the hand and gives you a step-by-step program to creating powerful affirmations for yourself.

Louise’s style of writing is engaging and entertaining.  It’s one of those books that you’ll pick up to start reading, and next thing you know 2 hours has passed.  Louise shares it all in this book.  She gives simple processes to re-program your thinkin’ so it’s not stinkin’ anymore

One of the many POWERFUL things that I took away from this book is doing affirmations in front of a mirror.  There’s something that happens when you’re looking yourself square in the eyes and speaking your words out loud.  There’s this connection that happens… very hard to put into words… but if you’ve done them this way for a while, you know what I’m talking about.

One thing that I’m becoming more and more conscious of is the way that I talk to myself.  The more aware of this you can be, the easier it is to get to where you want to go.

The mind is a slippery little sucker.  It will say all sorts of things to STOP you from getting what you want.  Most people get frustrated over this, but the mind is only doing what it is designed to do.  It’s job is to protect you…

So the mind looks at it this way…

If you don’t grow, you’re safe.  Meaning, if you stand still and don’t move anywhere, you are less likely to get hurt.  So it’s job is to stop you from growing!

So if your mind is doing that, then be happy!  Now why would I say such a thing… because it means that your mind is working correctly… no need to go see a doctor

Now there are 3 words that the mind says OVER AND OVER that gets most people every single time… and it stops them dead in their tracks!  When you discover this and pay attention to when your mind says this to you, you will know the exact things that you need to do to grow.

WOW!  I just got an email forwarded to me from a really good friend, Alicia Diaz.  It’s an email that I sent her a year ago almost to the day.  She came across it and wanted me to see the vision that I had and how trusting your guidance pays off.  It was so GOOD to read something that I wrote when I was starting my journey into the blogosphere.

I had absolutely NO CLUE about blogging or the whole social media game… I just knew that I had a strong feeling about something and I was going to follow it.  You know the feeling, right?  The feeling of being drawn to something, almost as if you are being pulled.

I’ve come to learn that this is the Universe showing me which route to take to get to where I want to go.  We all have wants and desires… and the Universe ALWAYS knows the best and fastest route.

We all have this internal guidance…

It’s called your emotional guidance system.  It’s just that most of us have not listened to it for so long, that we don’t even ‘hear’ or ‘see’ the signs.  The good news is that it never shuts off, no matter how long you ignore it for!

After years of listening to other people (parents, teachers, coaches, relatives, bosses, etc.) telling you what to do, you stopped trusting and listening to yourself.  The signs are so subtle sometimes, but the more you listen and trust… the stronger the feelings get and the more noticeable they are.

I’ve always been someone not to listen to others.  I would get yelled at by my mother all the time for this.  I didn’t know it then, but I was listening to my emotional guidance system.  My teachers, coaches and bosses always would say ‘Eric always does what Eric wants to do’… haha!

So here is the email Alicia sent me…

It was so great reading this email and seeing what has unfolded in my life.  I could have NEVER predicted, back then, all of the amazing things that have come into my since building my personal brand with my blog.

I was just following a feeling… an emotion that felt good

The message I really want you to get today from this blog post is to ALWAYS follow what feels good to you.  I promise you that if you start trusting your guidance more, you will get everything you want!  There will be a bunch of people out there that don’t agree with you, but it’s your internal emotional guidance system… not theirs. 

It’s like you driving in your car and calling your buddy who is in their car, and asking them what their navigation system is telling them to do so you can get to where you want to go.  It would make NO SENSE… but this is what people are doing everyday by listening to others and not trusting in their own guidance.

I hope this email will help you get back to trusting your guidance and believing in yourself more.  I was going to keep this email to myself but I’m all about EMPOWERING others, and I knew if I shared it… it would touch someone’s life and make a difference.
