Back To The Basics… Enough With All The Ninja Moves!

by Eric Goldstein

abc blocks1 300x143 Back To The Basics... Enough With All The Ninja Moves!Sorta of a BOLD title, wouldn’t you say?

While I was hangin’ out in nature the other day, the thought popped into my head ‘Why is everyone always looking for the super duper ninja marketing tricks?”

Some people are ALWAYS on the lookout for the next hottest marketing secret.  That’s fine if you are already movin’ and groovin’… but most of the new marketers really need to get back to the basics.

It’s all about creating a strong foundation… better known as ‘the basics’.  Once you have the basics down, and you’re doing them CONSISTENTLY… then, and only then, should you move off to the advanced stuff.  The advanced stuff will do you no good if you don’t have the basics down.  Most of the time you don’t even need the advanced stuff!

Coach John Wooden’s theory on the basics…

This message rang super clear when I heard an interview from Coach John Wooden, legendary UCLA basketball coach. His ten NCAA national championships in a 12-year period while at UCLA are unmatched by any other college basketball coach.

The man knows something about creating success.  On the first day of practice he would have his team practice putting on their socks and shoes the proper way.  The players would look at him like he was crazy, but Wooden knew that a lot of players were taken out of games, and unable to go back in, because of blisters.

He would tell his players that the easiest way to avoid getting blisters is to pay attention to the basics.  He would show them how to roll their socks correctly and how to tie their shoes the right way to prevent the blisters… and they wouldn’t move on to other drills until they got this correct.

As silly as that sounds, there is a very important lesson within Coach Wooden’s teachings…

When it came to teaching his players basketball he always said “I do not permit fancy stuff in the teaching of my players at all.”  He was a big believer in doing the basics… over and over.  He had them practice free throws, dribbling and all of the other basic skills there are in basketball.

This is as concept that most people don’t grasp…

If you take Coach Wooden’s advice, you will start to see so much more success in your business.  There are a lot of people out there that are going to try and sell you stuff by saying “If you don’t buy my program where I’m going to teach you this cutting edge Ninja move that nobody on the planet knows about, then you’ll be a complete failure”.

Well in so many words they’re saying that:)

I’m here  to tell you that it really comes down to doing some basic things everyday.  By doing this, all of your efforts will compound on each other… otherwise known as the ‘law of compounding.  This is one of the most POWERFUL laws within our Universe.

I will tell you this, in the building my personal brand I haven’t used any ‘Ninja Tricks’.  I’ve just been doing a lot of simple things over and over… and then doing them again… and then again… and again… i think you get my point icon smile Back To The Basics... Enough With All The Ninja Moves!

Here is a quick story really showing you the power of this principle…

Once upon a time a Mogul king wished to reward a local peasant for saving his daughter’s life. “You can have anything you want,” offered the king.  The peasant asked merely for one grain of rice to be placed on a chessboard.  Courtiers began to laugh at the meagerness of this request, but the suddenly audacious peasant held up his hand for silence.  “I ask for one more thing”, he said. “Each day the amount of grains will be doubled and placed in the next box, and so on, for all the places on the board.”  The king thought this trifle a bit ridiculous, but agreed. The story does not end well, for on the 64th place there was not enough rice in the entire kingdom to satisfy the request. The embarrassed king had the peasant hanged.

- Story read on Paul Lemberg’s website

This story shows you how exponential growth is created by doing something simple over and over.  I know I’m pounding this principle into your head right now, but I can’t stress enough how important this is.

There is so much HYPE out there on the internet.  I like to consider myself a ‘non-hypey’ marketer who will always shoot you straight… and keep it real with you!

Remember, you need to know how to do the basic karate kicks and punches before you can become a Ninja!  It’s my intention on this blog to share with you the basic strategies that you need to create a RockStar Personal Brand within your niche.

I’ve got a quick questions for you…

Are you doing the basics?  Are you doing them consistently?  The 2nd questions is the most important piece of this equation.  I’d love to hear your answers and feedback on this post.  Leave me a comment below.

Also, share this post with your Facebook and Twitter buddies… this is something that everyone can find value in.

Catch you real soon…

Yours In Success,

Eric Goldstein

Your right Eric about all the hype out there on the Internet and it’s true that there are some Guru’s who have such good sales copy, that they convince most new people that without this amazing software or coaching program their not going to make it, Which is bullcrap!.

You have to build a solid foundation first and that cannot be done without first doing the basics to set that foundation in place to build upon. Most people are looking for a quick fix Eric hence why they get pulled all over the place by this launch and that launch. I say work on self first, plot a path and definitely focus on doing the basics first. Thanks for sharing and Excellent post :-)

Alex,

Right on brotha man… once someone
has a good foundation set in place with
doing the basics, then they can do some
Ninja moves.

But the cool thing is… wild success can
be created without the Ninja moves. It
just takes doing the basics CONSISTENTLY!

Thanks for sharing a great comment

Hey Eric, I absolutely LOVE this post and kudos to you for coming out and telling it like it is.

There are too many times I encounter people in my coaching group that are soooo keen to just get started and be rocking it out that they just go out and buy all these courses, that are just beyond them at this point in their business. The instant success stories are so few and far between, but some of them are so desperate for it that the great copy writing certainly sucks them in!

I agree with this post whole heartedly, and with Alex when he said that people get caught up in the “Launch this” and “Launch that” hype, work on yourself and the basics first and you will be golden!
cheers

Nat,

I’m all about ‘telling it like it is’… it
doesn’t always go over well with some
people, but I’m learning more and more
each day to not care what other people
think about what I do and say.

If I feel a certain way about something
I’m going to express it. There is a lot of
stuff that I don’t feel good about in the
online marketing world when I look at
it…

So I’m going to be the authentic blunt
dude that I am and say it… and I KNOW
that it will HELP many people.

So thank you for your comment today.

This was a amazing read bro,

Thanks for sharing such a simple insight that many people don’t quite grasp. I realise that’s what most people do because they want to reap instant results, which is why most broke people play the lottery, to make instant millions, when in actual fact the way that most successful people go about it is very simple.

Your words are pure inspiration Eric and I have shared this piece with my network, thank you very much.

Chris

Hey Chris,

First, thank you for sharing this post
with your network. I appreciate you
Chris for doing that!

There are a lot of people looking for
instant overnight success. I’m not going
to say it can’t happen, because I believe
ANYTHING is possible…

To create that someone just needs to
be 100% in alignment with the thought
of doing that… and not Ninja moves, and
they can create that.

The challenge with that is our society has
created a belief of ‘you have to work hard’
and ‘success takes time’.

So for someone to truly believe that they
have to buck the current of a belief that’s
been deeply ingrained into them their whole
life.

The other option is do the basics… over
and over and over again. Just some thoughts
from my crazzzzy brain:)

Thanks buddy for all you do!

Eric I really enjoyed this post. You reminded me of the importance of going back to the basics. If we all just did the basics as Coach Wooden showed his team, then our results would eventually build so much momentum that we would become UNSTOPPABLE! Love it.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the great post, it is just so true. I have far too many training courses and the reality is consistent effort is the key.

With so many great sales letters and promises of instant wealth online people tend to neglect the basics.

Great to see you here in the

consistency… in ANYTHING
we are doing.

I’m not saying all of the trainings
that people are buying don’t work,
but people need to do the stuff
consistently…

And if it’s not the basics, then they
need to create the habit of doing them
first before adding all the fancy stuff.

So right, Eric. Some folk do run before they could crawl! I’m sure we all have the experience of doing just that before we even realize it sometimes. That is why we should encompass ourselves with a concrete foundation before before embarking on the marketeer network and timing is of the essence ,of course.

Hey Garrett,

I feel there is so much VALUE
in teaching people the basics…
because when done over and over
they are very effective.

Most of the time we think we need
to teach people all the Ninja crazy
techniques… because that’s what
they are expecting.

But when you can teach them the
basic things that they need to do
consistently to be effective… they
will be much more happier and
fulfilled from your trainings.

The Law of Compounding is amazing.
To the human mind, certain things
seem to simple to be effective.

Thanks for taking the time out

Plus, what ever John Wooden said, is the key. Basics. No hype.

Thanks for another fabulous post Eric.

I couldnt agree enough that laying the foundations are so critically important. This is something I have been going over and over recently myself and still tinkering with my overall personal brand.

So many of my coaching clients and team members want to have it done instantly, but I am so passionate (like you are and others who have commented) that it takes time to develop a solid foundation and a good presence. To me its very similar to building a good ole solid house… making sure the foundations are excellent so that the house doesnt fall down later.

Thanks again :)

Hey there Eric! Super incredible post man. It is all right on point. The basics are missed quite a bit. You really hit the most important aspect of success in this post.. do the basics.. and do them consistently. You absolutely can not quantum leap your way through to success. It all starts with a scoot, then a crawl, then wabbling, walking, jogging, running… then and all out sprint.. baby! But, first being willing to scoot is key. Hope that’s okay, to it that way, I like to break it all down to the ridiculous. You rock! :) Sye-

I agree with you. These days many marketers proclaim old trusted methods that are based on logic and common sense no longer work and ALL of Them seem to have a silver bullet for SEO, Social Media, list building, etc.

But the reality is that once you tried all these New Methods, you will be returning to the Basics. As in any game or trade, the Fundamentals seldom change, you just find novel ways to apply them and build on them with new tactics.
