Are You Truly Adding Value To Others?

by Eric Goldstein

This is a very IMPORTANT question to ask yourself. This one question will be the deciding factor if you build a brand that everyone remembers or forgets. It really is that crucial!

I had a really cool experience that happen to me today that has to do with this topic. I’ll share it with you in the video at the bottom of this post. First, there a few things I want to cover before that.

So ask yourself the question… Are You Adding Value To Others?

What’s is your answer? One of the MUSTS to building a personal brand is to become someone that adds value to other peoples lives.

Think about the people in your life that you look up to or always want to be around. I’ll bet that they contribute to your life. When we enrich others, we become someone of value to them. Thus creating a personal brand that someone wants to follow.

A Few Ways To Add Value:

    1. Create Useful Content – Really get to know your niche and create content that will enhance the lives of the people who are interested in that industry. The more useful your content, the more valuable you become to your readers. It sounds like a no brainer… but you’d be surprised:)

    2. Share Useful Content – It’s good to have your readers not always just hear from you. When you come across good content from other people within your niche, share it. I like to follow the 80/20 rule… I share 80% of other people’s content and then create and share 20% of my own. This is usually a very good balance.

Again, it’s the simple stuff. I’m not a complicated kind of guy. I like to KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid). Most people think if it’s complicated it has to be good and powerful. Not me, I think complicated stuff is interesting… and the simple stuff is powerful.

Check out my cool experience today on adding value…

More often than not, we neglect this simple rule. Instead, we see things our way without considering the needs of others. Being of value to others can only come if we value others first. :-)

Right on Walter… sometimes we
get so focused on ourselves that
we forget this… just like you said.

We must truly want to help others,
and when we do… the value just flows.

Great story, Eric. It reminded me a little of Jim Rohn where he talks about not wishing things were better, but rather wishing we were better. Becoming a source of value to others seems like a huge part of that. Or like Gandhi said about becoming the change we want to see. Maybe if I am more tolerant I will stop seeing others as so intolerant.

Thanks Stefan…

Yes, Jim Rohn shared a lot about
this topic. Becoming a ‘Source of
Value’, I like that a lot!

Just focus on the good in others.
Appreciate the things that you like,
and before you know it, that’s all you
will see.

I appreciate you Stefan!

The look on their faces when I gave
them the money was priceless:)

Hey Eric, I like the parallels you shared between the homeless person and the entrepreneurial kids selling lemonade. The best part was the encouragement you gave to them. I REALLY think that is huge and goes a long way especially with such young and impressionable minds. I love encouraging kids whenever I can because anything positive will help shape who they become as adults. thanks, Laura

Hey Laura… it’s funny how you can
see it working in your own life, and how
you are attracted to where the value is.

Gotta love the Universe for giving us those examples:)

Eric. Yeah!. Become a source of value to others, don’t just take value. Nice illustrative comparison in your story.
The money you gave those young entrepreneurs was one thing, but the encouragement you gave to them was of far greater value. I think their impressionable minds understood on an unconscious level. You have helped shape the future of these members of our next generation of business people with how it is done.

I had always been longing for doing something in my life but ‘That Thing’ was unknown to me. And it was bothering me every now and then. I came across your blog two days back and it seems life is taking a turn. Why did i happened to see your blog so late. But better late than never :) . I am happy now and trying to leverage the good stuff shared by you to make the life meaningful.
I am able to realize that unknown thing. For now I am not targeting building brand for money. That will take tome to me. But definitely i want it one day. For now i have made a target to be a value adder. And i know other things would flow to me automatically. I started one small technical activity in my organization few days back. But was not very sure of the ultimate aim. Now i realize that’s a small version of what that i ever longed for. Will keep on sharing with you…
Thanks for reviving my life Eric. Keep on sharing great stuff. You rock!!

Hey Shweta,

Thank you for sharing such a
BEAUTIFUL comment… this is the
reason that I continue to do what
I do.

I’m working on some really good
stuff right now to walk people step
by step through creating a Personal
Brand around their Passion.

Keep an eye out… Keep on the path
you are on. Keep following your emotions,
if something feels good… follow it, if
something doesn’t feel good… don’t
do it.

Keep it real :)
